Rig Explosion, West Delta 45, LA

On 16NOV12, a platform exploded while workers were cutting pipe. USCG said the platform was not actively producing oil and it is not belived that there is any chance for a major environmental disaster. The platform was for oil and natural gas production. The location is ~9 nm from LA coast and current efforts are focused on Search & Rescue and Damage Control. NOAA is engaged (OR&R-ERD and NWS) with USCG to support efforts and will provide services as requested.
